Mission of Sheriff's Office: To provide public safety services to the citizens of Lee County in a professional manner while utilizing our resources efficiently and economically.
Objectives of the Sheriff's Office: The main objective of the Lee County Sheriff's Office are: * To provide law enforcement, detention services and judicial system assistance. * To attract, train and retain qualified personnel. * To provide our employees with the resources necessary to accomplish our stated mission. * To have mutually beneficial interaction with the citizens we serve. * To focus on the areas of crime prevention and public education. * To continue our school based resource program.
Accomplishment of the Past Year:
* Completed and occupied the addition to the Lee County Detention Center and moved operations of the Sheriff's Office to the W.S. Jones Center. * Returned $150,000.00 to the county general fund through grants, school board appropriations, military surplus funding and federal task force funding. * Secured equipment through military channels valued at over $15,000.00. * Received Federal funding in excess of $295,000.00 to purchase mobile data computers (MDT's) with no matching funds required. * Had personnel in the Enforcement Division attain level of Instructor Certification in Law Enforcement critical functions, resulting in saving thousands of dollars in training costs. * Graduated 6 deputies from a Law Enforcement Certified Academy with all within the top 5% of the class * Brought a Mobile Command Vehicle online resulting in a multi-county response to critical incidents. * Several deputies selected to represent area law-enforcement agencies during nation wide traffic campaigns. * Our Training Division continues to exceed the state required number of training hours per sworn officer. * Efforts in traffic enforcement resulted in a 15% reduction in DUI arrests in the 2006 - 2007 fiscal year. * Acquired outside funding for communications equipment to upgrade our E911 center. * Entered into a cooperative agreement with the cities of Auburn and Opelika to obtain federal funding totaling $25,000.00
Goals for Fiscal Year 2008
* Continuted education and training of all our personnel * To provide professional, effective and efficient law-enforcement service to the citizens of Lee County * Implementation of the "E-Citation" program which will result in a streamlined process for issuing traffic citations. * Further expansion of the MDT program resulting in placement of mobile computers in all Sheriff's Office vehicles. * Continue to develop infrastructure to provide real-time information/data sharing among all local public safety agencies. * Continue regional Law Enforcement training through utilization of our new facilities within the expanded Sheriff's Office/Detention Center.
Goals for Fiscal Year 2009
* Seeking and obtaining outside funding for specialized functions and missions to augment county budget allocations. * Continuing to promote professionalism and high standards in public safety service in Lee County through the continued training and education of all our personnel. |
