Parent Assaults Coach
On March 21, 2006, at approximately 5:30 pm/cst, the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a call from the baseball field at Beauregard High School.  Deputies arrived at the field and discovered that the head coach of the baseball team had been assaulted on the field during a junior varsity baseball game.  According to witness accounts of the incident, a parent of one of the school's students had gone into the dugout on the field and was asked to leave.  The parent then came onto the baseball field and then began hitting the coach multiple times about his back and face.  The coach suffered minor injuries from this violent attack.  An off-duty Auburn police officer, who was present at the game, detained the offender until deputies arrived on the scene.  David Lamar Bowen of Salem, Al. was arrested and charged with Assaulting a Sports Official which is a Class C Felony.  Bowen has been released from the Lee County Correctional Facility on a $5,000.00 bond.
