Murder on Timber Ave.

On June 4, 2006, at approximately 5:47 am, the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a shooting that had occurred near a residence on Martin Avenue in Opelika.  At approximately 5:48 am the Sheriff's Office received a second call reporting that an ambulance was needed on Timber Avenue in Opelika.  Deputies arrived at the Timber Avenue location and discovered two female victims who were suffering from gunshot injuries, they were located inside a vehicle that had struck a tree.

Mollie Echols Carlisle, age 60 of Opelika, had multiple gunshot wounds to the chest region of her body and Marilyn Ann Echols, age 42 of Opelika, had multiple gunshot wounds to her left leg.  Both victims were transported to East Alabama Medical Center for medical treatment for their injuries.  At approximately 9:20 am Mollie Echols Carlisle was pronounced dead as a result of the gunshot injuries she had suffered.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office has arrested Cedric Marice Love, age 31 of Opelika, for the shootings of these two victims.  Love has been charged with one count of Capital Murder and one count of Assault 1st Degree and he is currently being held without bond in the Lee County Detention Facility.

Although Love is the father of Marilyn Echols two children and Mollie Carlisle is Marilyn's mother, there is still no clear motive for this shooting at this time and the case remains under investigation.
